Tutor

The "I Have a Dream"® Foundation of Boulder County seeks volunteer tutors to work with at-risk youth on a long-term, one-to-one basis. The program is designed to encourage disadvantaged youth to graduate from high school and become self-sufficient. Every volunteer should provide a safe, meaningful, and trustful relationship with the Dreamer.  Training and a tutor handbook will be provided.

Goals

  • To keep Dreamers in school.
  • To help Dreamers progress academically.

Objectives and Responsibilities of Tutors:

  • To work at least one school semester with my Dreamer, or group of Dreamers.
  • To tutor my Dreamer on a regular basis, a minimum of once per week.
  • To fill out brief written reports of each tutoring session.
  • Meet with the Project Coordinator and report to him/her regarding the progress and/or concerns about the Dreamer(s).
  • To receive training where necessary.
  • To act as a positive role model providing guidance, support, and encouragement for my Dreamer. To encourage high academic standards and emotional growth. To be consistent, dependable and not make promises you cannot keep.
