Mentor

Adult volunteer mentors are needed to provide Dreamers with long-term, reliable, and supportive relationships, to offer one-on-one guidance and support, and to serve as positive role models. The program is designed to encourage disadvantaged youth to graduate from high school and become self-sufficient. Mentors meet with their Dreamer twice/month to grow and continue the relationship.

Requirements: Mentors see their Dreamer at least twice per month for a minimum one-year commitment, communicate with the Dreamer's parents/guardians, attend an introductory training (3 hrs) before volunteering for the first time.
Qualifications: At least 18 years of age, experience working with children or teenagers preferred.

Conducting background checks for mentors costs us $50. We ask that mentors contribute $20 towards the background checks to help support the program. If you are unable to pay for your background check, assistance will be provided.

PROGRAM VOLUNTEERS

Program Volunteers are needed to work with the Dreamers during both after-school and summer programming. The volunteer experience varies based upon the age of the Dreamers they work with. Volunteers working with younger Dreamers will assist in facilitating workshops helping Dreamers develop math and literacy skills as well as provide support for a wide range of enrichment activities. Volunteers working with older Dreamers tend to provide one-to-one or small group subject specific homework help to Dreamers. Volunteers are needed at all ten Dreamer classes across Boulder County. The focus is mainly academic and can include anything from homework help to academic enrichment. Volunteers are needed for all areas of study, and provide not only academic resources to the Dreamers, but also serve as positive role models. Most programming occurs after-school, between 2:15 - 6:30, though some opportunities are available during school or on the weekends.

Requirements: Minimum of one evening per week for a semester, and attend an introductory training (1 hr) before volunteering for the first time.
Qualifications: At least 14 years of age, experience working with children or teenagers preferred. Work study tutors must qualify for financial aid at CU Boulder, Naropa, or Front Range.
