Scholarships

Since 1998, "I Have a Dream" Foundation of Boulder County has awarded more than $2 million in postsecondary scholarships to low-income students in Boulder County, helping them pursue their academic dreams of attending college or another post-secondary opportunity.

In 2016, "I Have A Dream" was awarded more than $500,000 in funding from the Department of Higher Education's Colorado Scholarship Initiative. This funding has led to additional post-secondary scholarships for Dreamer Scholars and other low-income students in Boulder County. Please check the eligibility before applying for any scholarship opportunity, and call the College & Career Department (303-444-3636 x11) with any questions.

 

“I Have a Dream”: Scholarship for Dreamer Scholars

“I Have A Dream” promises each Dreamer Scholar a four-year, last-dollar tuition scholarship after high school graduation. Scholarships are available to Dreamer Scholars only, in $2,500 increments per year up to $10,000. Deadline: Contact the College and Career Department at 303-444-3636 x11 for your deadline status. Apply with this application if you meet the below requirements.

• Be an “I Have a Dream” Dreamer Scholar
• Graduated from High School or GED program
• Be enrolling in a post-secondary program within two years of expected high school graduation date for Iris and Phoenix Dreamer Scholars and within one year for all Dreamer Scholars
• Have applied to three or more additional scholarship opportunities

“I HAVE A DREAM”: Proud Scholar Scholarship

The Proud Scholar Scholarship is awarded annually in the spring to a current or past participant in the "I Have A Dream" Foundation of Boulder County program. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide monetary assistance to students who may need extra money above and beyond what is provided by "I Have A Dream." One ($5000), two scholarships ($2500 each), or four scholarships ($1,000 each) will be awarded depending on the need and number of applicants. Apply with this application if you meet the below requirements.

• Be an “I Have a Dream” Dreamer Scholar
• Graduated from High School or GED program
• Be enrolling in a post-secondary program within two years of expected high school graduation date for Iris and Phoenix Dreamer Scholars and within one year for all Dreamer Scholars
• Have applied to three or more additional scholarship opportunities

 

“I HAVE A DREAM”: Dreamer SCHOLAR Guest SCHOLARSHIP

Thanks to an anonymous donor, scholarships are awarded annually in the spring to current or past Dreamer Guest participants in the "I Have A Dream" Foundation of Boulder County program. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide monetary assistance to students who have participated in the "I Have A Dream" program and have a need for financial assistance towards post secondary education. Scholarships between $500 and $2,000 will be awarded depending on the need and number of applicants. Apply with this application if you meet the below requirements.

• Be a current or past Dreamer Guest in the "I Have A Dream" program
• Graduated from High School or GED program
• Be enrolled in a post-secondary program within one year of high school graduation date
• Have applied to three or more additional scholarship opportunities

 

THE DAKOTA SOLOMON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

In 2002, Ariel and Kristen Solomon established the Dakota Solomon Memorial Scholarship with the “I Have A Dream” Foundation of Boulder County in memory of their son, Dakota to help low-income “I Have A Dream” students further their education. The scholarship will equal approximately $1,500 for tuition, books, room and board, or fees. All applicants must have attended "I Have A Dream's" long-term programming as a Dreamer Scholar. A selection committee from “I Have A Dream” will select a student based on the following criteria: Financial need, Character, Determination, Scholastic ability, and they must be currently enrolled at the University of Colorado or other college.  Deadline: May 1, 2018. Application

 

 

Closing the Gap: Boulder County COSI ScholarshipscustomLogo

This scholarship is provided by the state Department of Higher Education’s Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative (COSI), with the goal of increasing the attainment of post-secondary credentials and degrees for underserved students in Colorado. Read more about the COSI programDeadline to apply for the 2018-19 school year is May 1, 2018.

Please carefully review the qualifications listed in the application before applying; eligibility includes a minimum GPA, FAFSA and other financial aid document completion, and restrictions on the postsecondary institute the student is attending (must be a public institution of higher education in Colorado).

IMPORTANT NOTE: By applying for this grant, the student will automatically be considered for a number of additional scholarships provided by partners. These scholarships are listed below. The Cielo Technical Education Scholarship Fund: This fund’s mission is to assist students seeking technical school education, particularly in technical school programs, certifications, and community college. The Cielo Education Scholarships will cover up to $8,000 for individual students demonstrating a financial need. Read more about the Cielo Fund. 

The Cielo College Education Scholarship Fund: This fund’s mission is to assist students seeking a traditional college education.

The Dalton John Bane Memorial Scholarship: The family of Dalton John Bane is providing scholarship funding in memory of Bane, who dreamed of becoming a doctor and realized hard work in school could open up the whole world to him and his desire to help others. 

The Mary Hester Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship, for Dreamer Scholars only, was created in memory of Mary Hester, a board member with the "I Have A Dream" Foundation of Boulder County for over six years, as well as a Dreamer sponsor, a Leave A Legacy member, and a champion for our Dreamer Summer Internship Program during her time serving as the President and CEO of Intrado, now called West Safety Services. She always took the time to speak with each of the Dreamer Scholars who were interns at Intrado and was an incredible role model for them.

The Boulder Housing Partners (BHP) Resident Representative Council Scholarship: The is scholarship, for students who currently live in a BHP community, was created when residents of BHP's Resident Representative Council voted to allocated funding for scholarships to be matched by the COSI Matching Scholarship funding.

BVRC logoThe Boulder Valley Rotary Persistence Award: Boulder Valley Rotary is providing a gradually increasing scholarship to a college freshman that participated in the Dreamer Scholar Program. This scholarship aims to encourage their commitment to their post-secondary education. This scholarship, which is awarded in varying increments: $1,500 (sophomore year), $2,000 (junior year), and $2,500 (senior year), will be matched by COSI funding, leading to two Persistence Awards, which have been awarded starting in the 2017-18 school year.

The Premier Members Credit Union Scholarship: The local Premier Members Credit Union has provided funding for scholarships, for Dreamer Scholars only, to be matched by the COSI Matching Scholarship.
