Scholarships

Since 1998, "I Have a Dream" Foundation of Boulder County has awarded more than $2 million in post-secondary scholarships to low-income students in Boulder County, helping them pursue their academic dreams of attending college or another post-secondary opportunity.

Most scholarship applications will be due in the Spring, and, unless otherwise noted, all scholarships can be applied for with the single application available under the Closing The Gap: Boulder County COSI Scholarship description.

“I Have a Dream”: Scholarship for Dreamers

“I Have a Dream” promises each Dreamer a four-year, last-dollar tuition scholarship after high school graduation. Scholarships are available to Dreamers only, in $2,500 increments per year up to $10,000. Deadline: Contact the College and Career Department at 303-444-3636 x11 for your deadline status.

Eligibility Information

Applicant must:

• Be an “I Have a Dream” Dreamer
• Graduated from High School or GED program
• Be enrolling in a post-secondary program within two years of expected high school graduation date for Iris and Phoenix Dreamers and within one year for all Dreamers
• Have applied to three or more additional scholarship opportunities

This scholarship is provided by the state Department of Higher Education’s Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative (COSI), with the goal of increasing the attainment of post-secondary credentials and degrees for underserved students in Colorado. Read more about the COSI program. Deadline: April/May 2018 TBD.

Applicant must:

• Have attended programming with “I Have a Dream” as a Dreamer, or through Adelante!, AVID, Boulder Housing Partners, or a similarly rigorous college success program
• Be a high school senior in Boulder County or graduated from high school in Boulder County 
• Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
• Have filled out the FAFSA and completed the COF (College Opportunity Fund)
• Be up to 250% Pell Grant eligible (Expected Family Contribution $13,045 or less on FAFSA)
• Be accepted to or enrolled in a public institution of higher education in Colorado; see full list of institutions
• Have a minimum 2.5 GPA (lower GPA will be considered with explanation)

 

The Dalton John Bane Award: Boulder County COSI Scholarship

The family of Dalton John Bane is providing $500 in scholarship funding in memory of Bane, who dreamed of becoming a doctor and realized hard work in school could open up the whole world to him and his desire to help others. The scholarship funding is being matched by the COSI Matching Scholarship funding, to provide $1,000 in scholarships. Deadline: April/May 2018 TBD.

    • Be a high school senior in Boulder County or graduated from high school in Boulder County 
    • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

THE Dakota Solomon Memorial scholarshipDakota

In 2002, Ariel and Kristen Solomon established the Dakota Solomon Memorial Scholarship with the “I Have a Dream” Foundation of Boulder County in memory of their son, Dakota to help low-income “I Have a Dream” students further their education. The scholarship will equal approximately $1,500 for tuition, books, room and board, or fees. Deadline: April/May 2018 TBD.

Applicant must:

  • • Have attended programming with “I Have a Dream” as a Dreamer
    • A selection committee from “I Have a Dream” will select a Dreamer based on the following criteria: Financial need, Character, Determination, Scholastic ability, Currently enrolled at the University of Colorado or other college

     

Boulder Housing Partners Resident Representative Council (RCC) Award: Boulder County COSI Scholarshipboulderhousingpartners

About

The residents of Boulder Housing Partners Resident Representative Council (RRC) voted to allocated $2,000 in scholarships to be matched by the COSI Matching Scholarship funding, to provide $4,000 in scholarships in 2017. Deadline: April/May 2018 TBD.

Applicant must:

  • • Currently live in Boulder Housing Partners community
    • Have attended programming with “I Have a Dream” as a Dreamer, or through Adelante!, AVID, Boulder Housing Partners, or a similarly rigorous college success program
    • Be a high school senior in City of Boulder or graduated from high school in the City of Boulder  
    • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
    • Have filled out the FAFSA and completed the COF (College Opportunity Fund)
    • Be up to 250% Pell Grant eligible (Expected Family Contribution $13,045 or less on FAFSA)
    • Be accepted to or enrolled in a public institution of higher education in Colorado; see full list of institutions

Boulder Valley Rotary Persistence Award: Boulder County COSI ScholarshipBVRC logo

The Boulder Valley Rotary is providing a gradually increasing scholarship to a college freshman to encourage their commitment to their post-secondary education. This scholarship, which is awarded in varying increments: $1,500 (sophomore year 2017-18), $2,000 (junior year 2018-19), and $2,500 (senior year 2019-20), will be matched by COSI funding, leading to two Persistence Awards starting in the 2017-2018 school year. Deadline: April/May 2018 TBD.

    • Have attended programming with “I Have a Dream” as a Dreamer

The local Premier Members Credit Union has provided $2,500 in scholarships to be matched by the COSI Matching Scholarship, awarding a total of $5,000 in 2017. Deadline: April/May 2018 TBD.

In 2016, “I Have a Dream” Foundation of Boulder County distributed 135 scholarships totalling $201,009 to recent high school graduates and current college students. This number will increase this fall, when “I Have a Dream” awards new scholarships through the aforementioned opportunities.
