Tutors are needed to work with the Dreamers during both after school and summer programming.
The tutoring experience varies based upon the age of the Dreamers they work with. Tutors working with younger Dreamers will assist in facilitating literacy and math workshops as well as provide support for a enrichment activities. Tutors working with older Dreamers tend to provide one-to-one or small group subject specific homework help to Dreamers.
Tutors are needed at all six Dreamer classes across Boulder County. The focus is mainly academic and can include anything from homework help to academic enrichment. Tutors are needed for all areas of study, and provide not only academic resources to the Dreamers, but also serve as positive role models. Most programming and tutoring occurs after-school, between 2:15 - 6:30, though some opportunities are available during school or on the weekends. A limited number of paid work study tutor positions at "I Have a Dream" are available each year through local colleges and universities.
Requirements: Minimum of one evening per week for a semester, attend an introductory training (1 hr) before volunteering for the first time.
Qualifications: At least 14 years of age, experience working with children or teenagers preferred. Work study applicants must be eligible for work study at their respective college.
