Help a Dreamer Family with Adopt-A-Family

Each holiday season, "I Have a Dream" seeks community members to "adopt" Dreamer families to help provide them with gifts and brighten their holiday celebrations. Companies, private donors, and "I Have a Dream" board members and mentors, among other volunteers and community members work to fulfill the needs of all the Dreamer families, which can range in size from two members, to up to ten in some cases. Each Dreamer and his or her family submit a "wish list" of gift ideas that are approximately $30. Donors are matched with wish lists and then gifts are gathered and distributed to the families. We also offer the option to "Adopt-A-Center" which allows supporters to donate items to one of our six learning centers throughout Boulder County. Donations made toward the Adopt-A-Center initiative will benefit over 50 Dreamers and guests who utilize those facilities year-round, after school and during the summer. Last year we also started the Adopt-A-College Dreamer program to involve our Dreamer alumni who are away from home and in college, by sending them care packages. It was wonderful to witness the different ways community members put together creative packages to support our college Dreamers during their finals.

To get more information on the program or get involved, please read the participant letter. If you have any questions or want to sign up as a donor, committee member, or a volunteer, then please contact the Adopt-A-Family Coordinator at 303-444-3636 x 20 or by email at aaf@ihaveadreamboulder.org.

Volunteer Opportunities

There are many opportunities to become involved with the "I Have a Dream" Foundation of Boulder County as a volunteer! The organization incorporates and relies on the support of over 300 community volunteers on an annual basis. Their support is invaluable to the organization and those whom it serves. Volunteers are actively recruited in a variety of areas, including as mentors, tutors, special events volunteers, graphic designers, photographers, IT support, and board members. Mission and Overview

The mission of the "I Have a Dream" program is to motivate and empower children from low-income communities to reach their education and career goals by providing a long-term intervention program of mentoring, tutoring, and cultural enrichment. Upon graduation from high school, each Dreamer is eligible to receive a last-dollar, four-year tuition-assistance scholarship for college or vocational school.
